For many families affected by autism, there’s not a lot to celebrate during the holidays. Between paying rent, the electric bill, and other living expenses, what little left over is spent on expensive therapies for the individuals affected by autism. Purchasing gifts for the holidays is simply not feasible. Each year, Andra’s Hand adopts underprivileged families affected by autism from the South Florida area who would otherwise go without. The organization provides gifts for every member of the families, from toys and clothing to toiletries and other basic necessities. Andra’s Hand also provides grocery store gift cards to ensure that that each family is able to have a holiday meal. Gifts are wrapped by a team of volunteers and delivered either directly to the families or through a school.
