USS ORLECK Naval Museum

OPERATION EDUCATION OUTREACH is a STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education outreach program directed at elementary, middle, and high school students, using the 70-year old museum ship (Destroyer USS ORLECK DD886), it’s history, and its legacy as a multi-discipline learning platform. The project will afford over 240,000 students and their teachers within a two-hour drive from the Museum a structured program for student field trips, research, hands-on learning, team-building, and leadership development While the Museum regularly hosts field trips for students from Southwest Louisiana, the parishes of “Acadiana” to the east of Lake Charles, and the Southeast TX counties to the west, this grant will provide funding for development of lesson plans, lesson materials, teacher guides, and media resources for video and audio presentations and student interaction. It will also help jump-start development of distance or virtual learning opportunities for students who do not reside in the local area
